Maryland is on the Atlantic and also contains the largest estuary in the world, the Chesapeake Bay. The state has many excellent post-secondary institutions and job prospects are great. Artists and designers generally make good salaries in Maryland. For example, in 2004, art directors made an average of $66,780; fine artists, $39,700; interior designers, $45,580; and music directors and composers made an average of $52,900 that year.
